Meet the musicians

LIANNA ELMORE, violinist, studied chamber music with the Alexander String Quartet at San Francisco State University and earned her B.A. and M.A. in violin performance at CSU Fresno. Ms. Elmore has been a member of the Fresno chamber music group, Moment Musical, since 2012 and in 2018 she founded The Tower Quartet, where she acts as first violinist. She performs in the first violin section of the Fresno Philharmonic and is Co-Assistant Concertmaster of the Sequoia Symphony. Ms. Elmore also has experience in other genres, often playing and improvising with her gypsy rock band, Before Perils.

JOHN MORRICE, violinist, is the past assistant concertmaster of the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra and formerly served as conductor of the Fresno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Mr. Morrice has performed in England and Germany and in many orchestras and chamber ensembles on the West Coast. For a decade, Mr. Morrice played chamber music on Sundays at the Upstart Crow Restaurant in Fresno and was once featured on the "Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt" show on CBS after having performed in a string quartet on top of Half Dome in Yosemite. He served as Orchestra Director at Bullard and Edison High Schools in Fresno and currently conducts the string ensemble at Fresno City College.

JUDY ROBINSON, cellist, is a native of Fresno. She joined the Fresno Philharmonic while in high school and continues to perform with the orchestra, occasionally acting as assistant principal cellist. Ms. Robinson attended CSU Fresno as a music major. She has performed with the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, the Community Chorus Orchestra and as principal cellist with the Fresno Lyric Opera. Ms. Robinson maintains a private music studio and appears frequently in the Fresno area as a chamber musician.

CLAUDIA SHIUH, violinist and violist, has performed extensively throughout California as a chamber musician. Formerly principal violist of the Fresno Philharmonic, Ms. Shiuh also served as principal violist of Paris' l'orchestre de chambre Paul Kuentz, touring throughout France. Ms. Shiuh has performed in Italy with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra and was a guest artist at the Ascoli Piceno Music Festival. As a faculty member of CSU Fresno, she has given seminars and concerts in Austria. She was a member of the Chamber Orchestra of America and performed as a soloist in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.


CYNTHIA STUART, violinist and violist, is the assistant principal second violin in the Fresno Philharmonic. She is a long time member of the chamber music ensemble Moment Musical. She has been principal second violin of the Fresno Lyric Opera and Community Chorus Orchestras and has played with the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble. Ms. Stuart maintains a private studio and is active in the Fresno section of the American String Teachers' Association which holds a yearly chamber music workshop for students.
